It can feel a little stressful, especially when you don\u2019t know what you\u2019re supposed to do as a homeowner to make sure it goes smoothly. Clear the Area Near Your Boiler<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Installing any HVAC system, whether it\u2019s a boiler or an air conditioner, requires a clean working area to get the job done. Because of that, you need to clear out the area where your boiler is about to be installed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re replacing an old boiler, the area should be pretty easy to identify and clean up. If this is the first time you\u2019ve ever had a boiler installed, it pays to pay attention during the pre-installation appointment so you know where radiators are going, and you can clean up all those areas around your home as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turn Off the Power to the Boiler<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Assuming that you\u2019re replacing an old boiler system, it\u2019s time to shut down all power that goes to the boiler itself. This is done through a switch that\u2019s directly at your boiler, but beyond that? You should also shut down power at the circuit breaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That switch is a resistor that\u2019s preventing the flow of electricity from entering the rest of the boiler, but it\u2019s not a direct shut-off. If that resistor fails for whatever reason, or the switch is flipped by mistake, it could be really bad. Because of that, you want to shut it down at the circuit breaker as well before anyone starts working on or around the boiler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shut Down the Water<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You don\u2019t have to shut water off at your main, but you should have a water line that goes into your boiler system. If that\u2019s the case, turn the valve shut and bleed the radiator line so that it\u2019s one less thing that needs to be done later on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But if this is a brand new installation, you will have to shut down the water main to give plumbers time to attach new pipes and divert the water flow to the boiler system. This can be inconvenient, so you can wait until just before the installation appointment to take care of this step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
