They don’t pop up at convenient times, but that doesn’t mean they can be put off until it’s convenient to schedule a repair appointment. In the long run, it actually costs you more money by waiting for repairs.

Timely air conditioning repair isn’t supposed to be a stressful thing. It’ll save you money in the long run, so let’s explain exactly how that all works.

Better System Energy Efficiency

Your AC doesn’t perform the way it’s supposed to when it’s damaged. The damage may not be enough to prevent it from cooling your home (right now), but it’s enough to impede upon your system efficiency.

Certain components can draw additional power to try and make up the necessary function where it’s lacking. This equates to higher energy spend and bigger bills at the end of the month.

Want to test your system’s energy efficiency right now? Time how long your air conditioner runs for when it’s on. A normal power cycle should be around 15-20 minutes on average, so if it runs for longer than that, you have a problem on your hands.

While it’s not concerning if your AC runs for 21 minutes, you should be concerned around the 25-minute mark or if it takes longer. This means that your system’s efficiency is suffering, and you’re paying way too much money to keep your house cool.

Fewer System Repairs

Imagine that every component in your air conditioner has a clock on it. When the clock runs out, the part breaks. The clock only ticks down to zero as fast as it’s supposed to, so a well-maintained system with quality parts should have a pretty big clock.

But when one component suffers, it can speed up the clock on those other components. Those are now undergoing residual strain for no good reason at all.

Short Cycling

When your air conditioner whirrs to life and starts cooling your home, that’s called a power cycle. On the opposite end of power cycling runtime, we have short cycling–when your air conditioner doesn’t run for enough time.

You set your thermostat to 74° F, and the indoor temp is currently 76° F. The AC kicks on to reach that lower temperature, but then it shuts off before it actually cools the room to 74° F. That’s short cycling.

Your thermostat sends another signal to get the air conditioner to turn on, and it does, but the fact that it didn’t run a full cycle before shutting off is a problem. This becomes more frequent as it goes unchecked and indicates an impending breakdown.

Don’t Delay: Call for Service Today

If you know that your air conditioner is struggling but just haven’t found the time to make the call yet, this is your signal.
